What affects the price

  • Lineup size. Each additional musician adds to the fee.
  • Length of booking. Bookings up to two hours are one price, and short feature sets are very welcome. Each extra hour adds $100 per player.
  • Roving or stage. Roving is fully acoustic and needs no equipment. A staged set with a PA adds sound equipment.
  • Location and travel. Metro Adelaide is included, up to 30 minutes’ drive from the CBD. Beyond that, regional events are priced by travel time from the Adelaide CBD, stepping up for each further 15 minutes. Ask for our Regional Pricing Guide, or tell us the venue and we will quote it.
  • Date and time. Friday and Saturday bookings finishing at or after 5pm, and bookings on public holidays, carry a 25% loading, as they are our busiest days for live music. Very early starts may also carry a loading.

How to choose a lineup

Small space or tighter budget. Choose the trio. It is the lightest roving option and fits most courtyards, cellar doors and foyers.

Most events. Choose the quartet. It gives you the full New Orleans sound, moves easily through a crowd and needs no equipment.

Large crowd, outdoor event or festival. Choose five or six players. The trombone and snare drum add volume and energy and carry across a bigger space.

Parades, openings and processions. Choose the parade band, seven players or more, with bass drum and extra horns. It can lead guests between venues or fill a whole precinct.

Acoustic or amplified. Choose acoustic for walking, mingling and background music. If you want a staged performance in a large room, ask about a lineup with a PA.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a jazz band cost in Adelaide?

Our acoustic trio starts at $1,300 and our quartet at $1,600, for bookings up to two hours. Larger bands start from $2,000. Every booking is quoted to your event.

Are your prices per musician or per band?

The prices above are for the whole band. If you need a different number of players or a different length of booking, we will quote it on your brief.

Is GST included?

No GST is charged, because we are not registered for GST. The price you are quoted is the price you pay.

What does the deposit cover?

A 25% deposit holds your date. The balance is invoiced after the event.

Do you charge for travel?

Travel within metropolitan Adelaide is included. Regional events are priced by travel time from the Adelaide CBD: the first 30 minutes each way is included and the price steps up for each further 15 minutes. Ask us for the Regional Pricing Guide, or tell us the venue and we will quote it.

Can I hire the band for less than two hours?

Yes. Bookings of less than two hours, which can include up to two sets of about 45 minutes, are one price. Short sets are very welcome, and if a song or two is all your program needs, that is all we will play and we’ll throw all of our energy into launching your event with a bang.

How long does the band play?

For each hour of a booking, the band can play a set of up to 45 minutes. A two hour booking is two sets of up to 45 minutes, with a break between them. Longer bookings add a further set for each extra hour.

How much does each extra hour cost?

Each extra hour adds $100 per player, so $400 for a quartet and $320 for the trio. Tell us your start and finish times and we will quote the whole booking.

Is there a loading for Friday and Saturday evenings or public holidays?

Yes. Bookings on a Friday or Saturday that finish at or after 5pm, and bookings on public holidays, carry a 25% loading on the whole booking, shown as its own line on your quote. These are our busiest slots for live music, and a booking that runs into the evening means turning down other work. Events that finish before 5pm are not affected.

Do you provide a PA system?

Our roving lineups are fully acoustic and need no PA. If you want a staged performance with a bigger sound, we can supply a PA, from $300 for a simple vocal and keyboard set-up. Larger set-ups are quoted to the room.

Do you feed the band?

For bookings of three hours or more, we ask the client to arrange food and drinks for the band, and we pass on any dietary needs beforehand. For some shorter bookings spanning dinner time, where load-in, sound checks and location make it impossible for the band to get their own food, we will ask for a meal to be provided.

Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?

Yes. We invoice, and can quote PO numbers on request. Many councils and corporates use the same arrangement every year.

What if our event is postponed or cancelled?

Talk to us as early as you can. Cancellation needs 28 days’ notice, and we are happy to look at moving the date if we are available.
