Seafood + Sounds is the Adelaide Central Market’s festival celebration of seafood and live music. Atlantic Street Band has been part of it for five years, bringing roving jazz to a busy market floor full of shoppers, stallholders and visitors.
The brief
The Adelaide Central Market team wants live music that adds colour and fun to the festival without getting in the way of a working market. That means a band that can move through narrow aisles and crowded stalls, play at a conversational volume, and keep people smiling while they shop and eat.
What we did
Each year the market books us for a Friday evening and a Saturday brunch session. In 2026 that was Friday 28 August from 6pm to 8:30pm and Saturday 29 August from 11am to 1pm. Our usual lineup at the market is an acoustic trio, with a fourth player brought in some years. We rove through the market with no stage, power or sound system. Playing at a market suits our roving format perfectly. Guests can stop and chat to the band, children can get close, and stallholders can enjoy the music while they work.
See it in action
Our version of When You’re Smiling in the market drew a great crowd, with shoppers stopping, filming and joining in.
Here is a second moment from this year’s Seafood + Sounds: our version of On the Sunny Side of the Street, finishing with a very dramatic ending and a high D on the trumpet. A stallholder filmed it from behind the band, and you can see the crowd responding.
Why a roving band works in a market
A market doesn’t have a stage or an audience in rows. People move constantly, and the best music finds them where they are. A roving acoustic band can take the music to every part of the market, change songs to suit the moment, and adapt to a quiet Friday evening or a busy Saturday morning.
What the market says
The Atlantic Street Band always brings such vibrant energy and great live music to Adelaide Central Market events. An absolute crowd favourite every time!

What came next
The market has also had us back around Christmas and New Year to bring some extra cheer, and the team is already talking to us about this year’s Christmas and market expansion programming. We have plenty of Christmas tunes ready to go.
